![]() ![]() The next few weeks will mean a lot more time in the house – so maybe there will be further progress in digesting the bookshelf shown in the photo above. ![]() So, my unexpected circumstance of working from home has led me to read 2 management books on interlinked subjects leading a more creative life and embracing the unexpected. There are many examples of this in the book - as a user of the product, my favourite is Compeed™ invented as a blister prevention product when the CEO of a company specialising in colostomy products – used their new padded adhesive to help with the blisters he was experiencing when out running. Ideas can be defined as collisions – take 2 familiar ideas and combine them into something new - or as Steve Jobs put it … “Creativity is connecting things”.And the upside of turbulence can be a new sense of cohesion and durability. Even bad events can lead to a better tomorrow.At the extreme, the unexpected can cause catastrophe. How many of us know that the opposite of this is anastrophe when something unexpected strikes quickly and leaves many people better off We naturally think more about the negative connotations of uncertainty. ![]() To combat this, we need to: challenge long held assumptions, spend time with people we don’t agree with, read things that challenge what we believe As we age, we are less able to obtain or store information.
